POLICY
Continuing education and training is fundamental to the Pierce County Department of Human Services' commitment to professional growth and quality services. The Department will assure that mandatory education and training to perform job duties is provided to appropriate staff. The Department will also support opportunities for employees to attend optional education and training with management approval. Such opportunities may prepare employees for change, enhance employee skills, and create benefits for the Department and the clients we serve.
Continuing education and training requests shall be considered on the relevance to the Department’s mission, degree to which it is required for agency compliance with laws, regulations, and program certification, staff time required to attend, and total cost of the request.

SUBJECT: Orientation of New Employees

Pierce County Department of Human Services will provide a thorough orientation for all new employees of their unit and the organization. All orientation activities must be completed within six months of hire.
DEPARTMENT - TRAINING
Training on Client Information and Confidentiality
POLICY
Pierce County Department of Human Services shall train its employees, interns, volunteers and other members of its workforce regarding policies and operations for the privacy of client information, including but not limited to protected health information. This training shall provide the necessary and appropriate information for each member to carry out his or her specific functions and will be in accordance with state and federal law.
