Special Wastes
 
Recycle at no Charge

Motor Oil: Accepted at the Pierce County MRF year around, Accepted at River Falls Compost/Yard Waste Site, Mon-Fri-, 6 am-4:30 pm & 1st & 3rd Sat., 8 am - noon.  Also check with your local service station. 
Do not mix oil with solvents, gasoline or anything else!

Waste Oil Guidelines:
Used motor oil, Transmission & Gear Oil
Hydraulic oil, #2 Fuel Oil, 
Diesel Fuel, Kerosene 

Scrap Metal
- No Charge
All metal should be free of plastic, wood and rubber. Copper/brass/scrap aluminum are ok. Size of loads limited to a pick-up size box full. call in advance for scheduling large size loads.

Oil Filters: Drain filters for minimum of 12 hours - 
No charge to households & farms. Accepted at P.C. MRF
Anti-Freeze: No charge to households and farms. Do not put gas, oil, solvents or any other contaminant into the anti-freeze drum.

Household Batteries:                                    Auto Batteries: lead Acid. No charge.

Accepted at the MRF: Mercury Oxide, 
Silver Oxide, Lithium, Nickel Cadmium,
Nickel Metal Hydride, rechargeable and others.
Not acceptable: AAA,AA,C,D,6V &9V. Ask us for a battery disposal list


Hazardous Waste:

Paints, stains, varnishes, poisons, 
solvents, pesticides, etc. are collected 
at Clean Sweep Programs 


Paint:

Buy only what you need. Use it up or find someone that can. If it is already dried up and doesn't contain lead, mercury or other toxic substances, toss it in the garbage. Save liquid paint for the Clean Sweep programs.            

Sharps: Sharps, (needles, syringes, lancets) are 
extremely dangerous to MRF employee and 
are not recyclable! The Public Health Dept. 
(273-6755) operates a program that 
distributes Sharps containers to the public, 
at no cost. Filled containers should be 
returned to the Public Health Dept. or 
River Falls Hospital for free proper disposal.
 
                                                       

Plastic Bags:
Plastic bags cannot be recycled at the Pierce County MRF. Plastic bags, fruit, vegetable & 
meat clear plastic bags and plastic shopping 
bags can be dropped off at many grocery and 
retail stores. Remove receipts. 
Bags must be clean and empty.

Cell Phones - No Charge: Also check where cell phones were purchased for recycling options.
